St. Augustine / Palm Coast

Guided region/area - NORTHEAST FL Serving the majestically historic backcountry marshes, bays, and near costal waters of St. Augustine and surrounding waters south to Palm Coast, and north to Ponte Vedra, including the Guana Lake.

Service description - The vast expanse of backcountry marsh, oyster spoils, and mangroves of the historic St. Augustine area offer the fly and light tackle enthusiast a classic chance at heart pounding, knee knocking fishing that is comparable with the better known fisheries throughout the state. (Try to keep it a secret!)  Whether it’s quietly

stalking oversized, sunning redfish laid up in extremely shallow water, or confronting giant tarpon devouring their prey, your trip on these historic backcountry waters will be one for the memory books.  Spend a day at the serenity of the marsh where deer, hogs, otters, eagles, dolphins and manatees will be the only competition around.   I am eager to work equally as hard for the beginner as I do for the seasoned veterans, with patience, instruction, and always a sense of humor.

The time of year, tide level and species sought determines the type of fishing that may be done. Under the right conditions we could:

1. Use the push pole to move onto a shallow bay sight casting
to individual or schools of fish feeding along the spartina grass, or oyster bars.

2. Motor into a creek and fish deep holes in bends and around oyster bars, tight quarters, but at times very rewarding

3. On higher tides, fish flooded oyster bars or pole down sandy shorelines looking for cruising or laid up fish is another option.

4. In the summer we may be fishing bait schools crowded into tight dark clouds from the predators feeding on them.  (Tarpon, Huge redfish, Cobia, Sharks, Spanish, Jacks, and Bluefish.)

5. We may target certain species around docks pilings or other structures possibly causing embarrassing ass-whuppins’ (occasional big fish lost to the barnacles).

Max of 3 people per inshore trip, 2 person max on fly fishing.

What to bring:  Sunscreen, Hat, Polarized Sunglasses, snacks, soda.
